Setup & customization
Which image sizes should I use?
Think in proportions, not pixels: Shopify makes every smaller size from the file you upload, so upload once at good quality. Slideshow and hero images 2400 px wide, landscape; add a portrait Mobile image around 1200 x 1500 for phones. Product images square, 2000 x 2000, as cut-outs on a plain background if you use the tile card style. Cards, columns and steps 1200 px on the long side. Logos as SVG or transparent PNG. Keep JPEG quality around 80; the theme lazy loads everything below the fold and marks the first image for priority.
How do I change colors and fonts?
Theme settings, Colors and Typography. Munich has five color schemes with nine roles each; every section picks a scheme instead of individual colors, so changing a scheme changes every section that uses it. Fonts are three: body, heading and accent. The accent font is the italic serif on highlighted words; changing it is the quickest way to make the theme yours. See Colors and Typography.
How do I set up the mega menu and navigation?
Create the menu under Online Store, Navigation and pick it in the Header section. Every top level entry with children opens as a dropdown. To turn a dropdown into a panel, add Mega menu column blocks to the header and type the entry’s name into their Menu item field, spelled exactly as in the menu. Columns hold up to eight links with images; a Mega menu promo card adds a picture card. See Header.
Can I use my own fonts?
The font picker offers Shopify’s library of several hundred families, served fast from Shopify’s servers, and that is what the theme supports. A font file of your own can be added with custom code, but that means editing theme files: duplicate the theme first, and know that custom code is outside what support covers. See Updating the theme.
How do I add custom code?
Use the Custom Liquid section, or the Custom Liquid block inside the buy box and the Custom section. Paste HTML, Liquid or an app’s snippet there; it lives in your template, survives updates and needs no file editing. Only if that does not do it, edit theme files, and then on a duplicate of the theme. See Custom Liquid.
Features
Does Munich support subscriptions?
Partly. Munich shows selling plans that a subscription app adds to the cart and the order, and the buy box takes app blocks, so a subscription app that provides one works in the buy box. The theme does not have its own subscription picker on the product page. If subscriptions are the core of your store, check that your app offers a theme app block before you buy.
Does Munich work with apps?
Yes. Every section that takes blocks takes app blocks, the buy box included, and there are Custom Liquid slots for app snippets. Nothing in the theme requires an app: reviews, bundles, low stock, delivery estimate, upsell and quick view are built in. Complementary products use Shopify’s free Search & Discovery app, which also provides the filters.
Does the theme work without JavaScript?
Yes, and that is deliberate. Every form in Munich is a real form: adding to cart, changing quantities, searching, filtering, sending a message, signing up all work with scripts blocked or failed. JavaScript adds the cart drawer, in place updates, the quick view and the carousels on top. If a script does not load, the shop still sells.
Which languages does the theme include?
English at launch, with all storefront text and every editor label translatable through Shopify’s Translate & Adapt app or any translation app. Further theme languages are planned for a later version; the changelog will say when they arrive.
How fast is Munich?
Fast by construction. The included templates load under 19 KB of minified theme JavaScript (before compression) on first load. Additional sections, Shopify features and apps can add to that. No framework, no library; suggestions, quick view, carousel arrows and the video lightbox load only when a visitor reaches for them. Every script is deferred, so none of them blocks the page from rendering. The layout preloads one stylesheet with the base styles; each section carries the rest of its own CSS, so a page loads only the styles it renders. The first large image is fetched with high priority, images below the fold are lazy, and adding to the cart works before any script has run. We do not quote a Lighthouse score, because the score depends on your images and apps as much as on the theme.
Purchase & support
How do I get support, and what does support cover?
Write to us through the form on the Support page. You will get an answer within two business days. Support covers installing, updating and using the theme as it ships. It does not cover custom code, third-party apps, or your Shopify account setup.
How do updates work? Are they free?
Free, for as long as you own the theme. Shopify shows Update available on the theme card; adding the update puts the new version in your theme library with your settings and content carried over, and you publish it when you have checked it. Only code you changed yourself has to be reapplied. See Updating the theme.
Can I try Munich before buying?
Yes. Try theme in the Theme Store adds Munich to your theme library unpublished, with your own products in it, for as long as you like. You pay when you publish. The Installation page has the steps.
